Nutrition website

Where was my website? – The paleo mom

After six excruciatingly long weeks, I’m so excited to be back online! Where has my site gone? My site was caught in a ransomware attack on someone else. And, even though my website is back, I still need your help.

So here’s the story…

*NEW* Nutrivore Weekly Serving Matrix

An easy to use and flexible weekly checklist
to help you maximize nutrient density.

The weekly serving matrix is very useful! I’ve eaten this way, but it really helps me know where to focus versus foods that play a more secondary role. It’s super helpful and has taken a lot of the hassle out of planning my meals. Thanks!

What happened to my website?

My website service provider, BizBudding, develops and hosts websites for hundreds of bloggers, businesses, and creators. Part of BizBudding’s infrastructure uses a cloud service provider called 365 Data Centers.

On Saturday, May 14, a ransomware attack targeted someone else whose data is stored in a dedicated environment on the 365 Data Centers cloud platform; but the cyber attacker widened the attack so that it ended up destroying all the data centers in the northeast of 365 data centers.

Thousands of websites went offline as a result of this cyberattack, from hospitals to Fortune 500 companies. Other sites like mine, including the main and backup systems were both affected by this hack, could not access our data. (Those websites lucky enough to have backups outside of the affected Northeast data centers were able to be back online within hours or days.)

Third-party cybersecurity experts confirmed that no customer data was accessed and that other than the targeted third party, no data was extracted from the cloud environment of the 365 Data Centers.

Nutrivore eBook Guide

Nutrivore is the simple but revolutionary concept:
Choose foods to meet the nutritional needs of the body!

I am very excited about the information on Nutrivore! Thank you so much for all of your research and the hard work you put into this kind of information that we can all use!!

This situation was completely out of my control, as I was not ransomed and was powerless to influence the outcome of this attack. After three weeks of increasingly cryptic and unnecessary 365 data center updates, I lost faith that I would regain access to my site or my backups in a timely manner. Even with ongoing litigation, my team and I assumed our best path forward was to rebuild. So my team and I dropped everything we were working on (largely building to start rebuilding, a massive job that we thought would take us all together a full month.

How I got the site

365 Data Centers told us they couldn’t initiate the restoration of my website (or anyone else involved) until the ransomware attack was resolved on all fronts. Then 365 Data Centers informed us that they finally got some decryption tools (not sure if that means they paid the ransom), and after six whole weeks of being disconnected from my site, they were finally able fully recover our data!

Once the data was retrieved, BizBudding had a delicate job to do to get my site back online. I’m so lucky through it all to have such amazing web developers. BizBudding was incredibly responsive and helpful throughout this ordeal.

My team and I had just reached halfway through our reconstruction; so yes, that means all our hard work over the past few weeks will be of no use to us now. And yes, it would have been helpful to know exactly when (and if!) we were going to get my website back, because then our efforts could have continued to be focused on building Nutrivore. It’s frustrating to have wasted so much precious time and energy, but I will say that going through this with my team has brought us even closer, and we can consider the new skills we’ve all learned as post-traumatic growth. I’m sure after that, future challenges won’t seem so big.

The uncool repercussions

Unfortunately, having my website unavailable for 6 weeks hurt my Google rankings. This means that when someone searches for a topic that I have written about, where in the past my article would have appeared in the first page or two of Google’s search results, now that same article will have multiple pages of depth, where most people will never see it. This cuts my traffic in half, even though the quality of my resources is the same. New people discovering my website through web search, then finding value in my articles or recipes, and therefore buying one of my e-books or programs, is the main way for my business to earn money. So I’m not off the hook yet.

Basically, my team and I need to move from rebuilding my website content to rebuilding my website prestige and audience. And, we know it will take time and support from you.

How you can help

The first thing you can do right now is spend some time on this website. It will help me restore my Google rankings that I have worked so hard for over the past decade. Read your favorite articles, maybe discover some you missed, search for your favorite recipes, and explore the entire website. Also, sharing my website with others will really help too! I know many of you used to share my site and/or specific articles with friends, family, clients or patients. I would be very grateful if you could do a little more over the next few months.
