Tell us about Kormotech and its Optimeal brand of premium pet food. What is the history of the company and the brand? Family-owned, Kormotech is a scientific supplier of premium wet and dry foods for pets founded in 2003. Our branded and private label diets are developed by leading European nutritionists, vet-approved and designed to provide a full range of nutritional support. Kormotech products are loved by millions of pets every day in 37 countries. In terms of revenue growth, we are the fifth fastest growing pet food manufacturer in the world.

In 2013, we introduced European pet owners to our new Optimeal range. The result of years of dedicated effort by our product development team, these meat-based recipes have been developed from the ground up to provide optimal immune support. From the moment our signature packaging hit store shelves, it was an instant hit with pet owners. Today, bags, pouches and cardboard tubes made from these unique diets can be found in many of the best pet stores around the world. At SuperZoo 2021, the Optimeal brand made its official debut in the United States.

What are some of the basic principles of Optimeal’s approach to pet nutrition? How does this approach differ from other pet foods? At Optimeal, we believe that a strong immune system is the key to a happy and healthy life. That’s why all of our wet and dry formulas are formulated with a special immune-supporting blend of antioxidants such as vitamins A and C, along with other essential nutrients such as selenium and zinc. We also believe that dogs and cats need an abundance of high quality animal protein, as well as herbs and berries for their free radical fighting abilities and prebiotic fructooligosaccharides for their digestibility. In addition, our products are prepared without GMO ingredients, poultry flour, corn, wheat, soy, artificial preservatives, flavors or colors. Our quality specialists control raw materials and finished products at sixty points. We do not know of any competing brand that offers a range of advantages quite like ours.


What are some of the key products in the Optimeal product line? What are the selling points of these products? Optimeal Dry Canine recipes are available in 10 grain-based and grain-free varieties, including lamb and vegetables for adults of all breeds, and salmon and brown rice for miniature breeds with digestive sensitivities. Many are packaged in our proprietary cardboard tubes, which provide convenience for picking and storage. Optimeal Wet Canine recipes are packaged in 3 oz. resealable bags. They are available in four very palatable flavors.

Optimeal Dry Feline recipes are available in eight flavorful flavors, such as grain-free chicken and veg, and a turkey and oat weight management formula. Optimeal Wet Feline recipes are available in four sachet varieties.

All of these meat-based recipes are developed by leading European nutritionists, vet approved and designed to provide a full spectrum of nutritional support.

What challenges and opportunities has Kormotech encountered when introducing Optimeal from Europe to the US market? One of our biggest challenges has been drafting the legal claims and statements on our US packaging to comply with AAFCO and State regulatory requirements, as well as US pet owners. . Fortunately, our talented packaging designers made it happen. Then they customized the messaging on our US website to follow suit.

Perhaps the biggest opportunity we have taken advantage of so far is partnering with a strong and reliable pet distributor. We are very happy to announce that Phillips Pet Food & Supplies will be our exclusive distributor in the United States. Their representatives will be responsible for presenting our new brand in the United States to independent retailers.
