CHICAGO, October 26, 2021 / PRNewswire / – The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics thank you Rep. Jim mcgovern (Mass.) And US Sen. Cory booker (NJ) for championing legislative efforts to convene a national White House conference focused on food, nutrition, hunger and health.
This White House conference would be an essential step in the fight against hunger and nutritional insecurity in United States.
“The Academy urges Congress to support this bipartite and bicameral bill. This conference would be an essential step in the fight against hunger and nutritional insecurity in United States“said the dietitian nutritionist and president of the Academy Kevin L. Sauer.
“It’s been over half a century since the White House hosted a conference dedicated to these important issues,” Sauer said. “Today, we must work together to create modern solutions to food and nutrition insecurity to ensure that families have access to safe and nutritious food.”
In 1969, the first and only White House conference on food, nutrition, hunger, and health was held, resulting in significant investments in the creation and expansion of programs on which millions of Americans still count today, including the supplementary nutrition assistance program, the special supplementary nutrition program. Program for Women, Infants and Children and the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program.
After the 50e anniversary of the first conference, the Academy joined with other organizations to convene another conference.
