Plugin: Better Entry Preview Documentation

  • Download for Movable Type 3.3. Extract. (Version 1.02—for Movable Type 3.2—can also be downloaded.)
    A donation will support continued development of this plugin. Suggested amount: $10.
  • Upload the files in the plugins/ folder to your plugins/ folder in your Movable Type installation.

After logging into Movable Type, click Plugins and you should see it listed. Click Settings and you’ll be presented with a window detailing the styles that will be used. You can change any of these and add your own. Per-weblog settings are allowed. The defaults are:

.right {float: right; margin: 20px 0 20px 20px;}
.left {float: left; margin: 20px 20px 20px 0;}

p, li {font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 2em; margin: 1.5em 0; font-family: Georgia, serif;}
h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 {color: black;}
h1 {font-size: 2.5em;}
h2 {font-size: 2em;}
h3 {font-size: 1.7em;}

#bep_content is a container div that surrounds the preview area. This can be used as a background to help mimic your site’s design—you could change this to something like #bep_content { background: url(/a/b.gif) repeat; border: 10px solid orange; padding: 25px; }, for example.

Both .left and .right with float elements to the left or right. If you use right-floated thumbnails—such as here on—you’ll get to see them display in the correct position when previewing an entry.

The heading definitions (h1 through h6) just help get font sizes and colors “correct.” If you use headings in your posts, you know exactly what I mean!

Any other styles you use on your site can be appended to this list. That’s not to say you can just copy your stylesheet into here—you can’t, it won’t work—but you can get a closer and/or more useful display out of the entry preview screen.
